The Alabama Association of International Educators (AAIE) abides by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in responding to actions that invite discrimination in all its forms. The COVID19 pandemic that began in Wuhan, China in November 2019 has spread quickly across the world with devastating consequences for communities globally. With economies falling into recession, people losing jobs, death tolls rising, people of Asian heritage on our campuses and in our communities are left vulnerable to racial slurs, physical violence and threats. As an international education organization in the state of Alabama, we oppose discrimination and violence in all its forms towards our citizens, our residents, our students, colleagues and visitors. We stand in solidarity with all who have been affected by discriminatory language and actions connected with the COVID19 pandemic. We urge our educational and local communities to act with compassion and concern for all who are touched by this global pandemic and its effects worldwide.
